- The arts, such as theater, galleries, and music.
- Community safety services, such as crime and block watch programs or your local homeowners’ association.
3. Create Community
Once you know what’s located where in your community, it’s time to build connections with individuals and groups in your community. Start with some of the essential services that you enjoyed in your old house. These may include housekeeping services, a nanny, and a dog walker and house sitter. Rally these community services around you so you’ll feel right at home.
Getting out into your new community can feel awkward. If you have children, you may have an opportunity to connect with others at your children’s school. With young children, there are parent groups. Seniors can look for recreation-focused groups or centers for seniors. Most importantly, walk around your community, talk to your neighbors and to people at local stores, and volunteer at something you love in order to make new friends and build new connections.
4. Finding a Helping Hand
When you’re moving to a new neighborhood, there may be local groups that can help you settle in. Parents may find that the school has resources for new parents, while seniors can look to the local seniors’ center.
